Introduction
I will be jumping back and forth between experiences, the Bible, and supporting topics.
In this case, I’ll be referencing the anime Jujutsu Kaisen. This anime will serve as a reference point, and I will continue using it as needed.
Brief Summary of the Anime
The anime follows a group of sorcerers who fight against supernatural forces, whether human or not. I will try not to spoil too much.
Topic: Rituals & Cults
This anime is a great example because sorcery involves spiritual practices. A practice itself is the definition of a cult.
Example from the Anime
There is an evil mastermind enemy in the series who wants to merge humans with curses (a.k.a. demons). He has spent years planning how to achieve this goal.
A series of events unfolds throughout the show—especially in seasons 1-3 (season 3 isn’t released yet). One of the most impactful events is the creation of a game called:
The Culling Games
This mastermind forces all sorcerers in Japan to participate. The game doesn’t end until a large amount of energy is created, leading to the creation of a monster. The rules don’t matter—this is purely done for chaos.
All players are bound to play, making this entire event a ritual.
What is a Ritual?
A ritual is a religious or solemn ceremony consisting of a series of actions performed according to a prescribed order.
Synonyms:
- Business
- Rite
- Celebration
- Ceremony
- Service
- Sacrament
- Worship act
- Order
- Tradition
- Practice
A ritual can be considered a lifestyle.
What is a Habit?
A practice—repetition.
Anything we do repeatedly is a ritual. It can be for good or bad.
What is considered good or bad is based on reasoning through emotions over time. However, true goodness comes from love.
1 Corinthians 16:14
“Do everything in love.”
