Drugs and Their Impact

Drugs Are Really Crazy Things

First, we need drugs as long as they serve a medical necessity. However, only a few would fully agree with that statement, while many may disagree due to:

  • Addiction

  • The

    feelings

    associated with drugs

  • The

    painful withdrawals

I have spoken with people who have consumed drugs, even family members. The things they have told me are peculiar or almost unbelievable.

The Bible on Alcohol and Drunkenness

The Bible mentions alcohol consumption, stating that drunkards won’t reach heaven.

1 Corinthians 6:9-10

That verse talks about more, but I will focus on the drunkards for now.

The concept of drinking alcohol, wine, and beer is often seen as “good” but not really.

Effects of Alcohol and Drugs

We all know that alcohol and drugs affect and alter our body.

Examples:

  • Anesthesia

    puts you to sleep.

  • Alcohol

    clouds your

    mind and memories

    , and

    damages the liver

    .

  • Weed

    alters

    brain function and emotions

    , similar to alcohol.

  • Sugar

    can lead to

    diabetes

    if uncontrolled.

  • Too much salt

    causes

    damage too

    .

It’s all about balance.

The Difference Between Food, Alcohol, and Drugs

There is a difference between consuming sugar, salt, and drugs like beer, etc.

Biblical Perspective:

Those who eat too much meat, pork, or red meat are sinning in excess.

That means I am sinning since I don’t always eat enough fruits, vegetables, and plants, which are biblically encouraged in Genesis, Exodus, and Leviticus.

Welcome to life guys!!! (Sarcastic tone).

Drugs Damage the Body

Drugs damage your body just like food and sugary drinks can. Anything that damages the body—whether from the inside or outside—is not good.

***For Christians***

1 Corinthians 6:19-20

“Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore, honor God with your bodies.”

If we know that certain substances are not necessary, there is no point in consuming them unless for medical reasons.

Drugs and the Spiritual Realm

Drugs give those who consume them access to the spiritual realm.

Example:

  • Alcohol empties your mind and senses

    .

  • People who get drunk

often say they don’t remember anything

    .

  • This is why alcohol can

    leave a person vulnerable

    .

A Common Example: The Hangover Movie

We are different from animals because we have:

  • Intelligence
  • Consciousness
  • Self-awareness

If we act purely on instinct, how are we different from animals then? c.

Am I saying we are animals?

No. But if we act without thinking, then we behave like them. That’s the difference. This may challenge for those who believe in the evolution theory. I will leave that for another time

Alcohol and Possession

Alcohol is a substance that removes self-control and allows instinct to take over.

Christians may explain this as a form of demonic influence because:

  • A person

    loses control

    .

  • “Something else” can take over for

    a short period

    .

Imagine you own a car. You leave it on idle, and someone hijacks it and drives recklessly. That’s called stealing or possession or even hijacking, as mentioned.

Possession is the ability to own or take control of something.

When a person drinks too much and loses consciousness, some believe it is a form of demonic possession because the person can harm others without realizing it. God had called us to “Love your neighbor as yourself”; Not to kill them. Mark 12:31

Final Thoughts

Let’s try to be more careful about what we consume and allow into our lives.

Take care.
